A majority of heat pump installations are sited alongside the property, but there are many reasons home owners or heat pump installers may opt for a remote heat pump installation, this is where the heat pump is located a short distance from the property.

One of the main reasons for opting for a remote heat pump is aesthetics, but other factors such as airflow and noise can also play a factor. For a remote heat pump to be successful, specialist pre-insulated pipework is require to transfer heat from the heat pump to the building.

Ideal solution

The UK government is projecting huge growth for heat pumps from 55,000 units a year to 600,000 units a year by 2028. They have also introduced the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) which offers homeowners grants (£7,500 for air and ground source) for installing heat pumps from October 2023.
