Climate change is causing higher temperatures. These are even higher in cities than in the surrounding countryside, the Federal Environment Agency wrote in a press release in June 2022, and explained the "urban heat island effect" caused by large areas of soil sealing, a lack of greenery, heating buildings and waste heat from engines. "We are not defenceless against the heat island effect," says Federal Environment Agency President Dirk Messner. "With significantly more greenery, especially new trees and more shading through external sun protection as well as roof and façade greening, spending time outdoors and the temperatures inside the flats can be made much more pleasant. In addition to new trees, we must above all protect the old trees in the cities – and water them regularly during persisting drought."

Significantly more green means significantly more points of contact between sewer pipes and roots. That’s why it is important to use systems that effectively prevent root ingrowth at the pipe connections. One of the reasons for the proven root resistance of the duct network system is the high contact pressure of the seal of more than six bar, even under shear load. This is because the higher the contact pressure, the greater the resistance to root ingrowth. Compared to stoneware (without shear load), it is about twice as high.

In addition, AWADUKT PP has a 94% smaller annular gap at the joint in direct comparison with stoneware, which effectively counteracts root ingrowth. This is because roots always seek out cavities or pore spaces into which they can grow. At up to 2.5 bar, the sewer network system is permanently sealed even under extreme conditions. The standard requirement of 0.5 bar is thus exceeded fivefold. Even with increased shear loads, deformations or angles of up to 2 degrees, the system remains reliably tight.
